Blue Momma is wicked taking a different route with our theme this week: abject humiliation. She t r i e d to cloak it in a "misery loves company" thing, but we know better…it’s just another one of those "you show me yours and I’ll show you mine" one- upsmanship. Except, in this case, it’s downsmanship or something. Don’t believe me? Here are HER words: "I want to see your unfinished projects. I have so many that I really
need some reassurance that I’m not the only one. Home improvement
projects are what I have in mind, but it you don’t have any of those
show me any kind of project – needlework, cooking, scrapbooking, etc.
You can even show me your spouse if they qualify as a work in process." AND, she had the audacity to beg for PICTURES!
Well, far be it for me NOT to abide by the rules of the game.
I’m certain I’ve mentioned how difficult it has been to locate old pictures before (like these or these)…that’s because they’ve been "waiting to be organized" for years. Lots and lots of years. But, thanks in large part to a well-aimed flame under my behind–lit by my traitor daughter of all people!–I’m making progress.
See? This is Rachel’s system:
Pretty pictures in pink bowls…doesn’t that just make the work F U N? At least she HAS a system…:/. AND she created a fabulous new tongue twister!
Once they were sorted by year, we put them in their own box:
Personally, I think funky, colorful photo boxes make a difference, too.
Can’t you just feel our momentum?
The old ones are relegated to old shoe or storage boxes…not nearly as motivatin’….
Ooops! I forgot these…..
THERE’S my Diet Pepsi, daggum it! I wondered where I left it! (See how I was multi-tasking? There are stamp projects all over the table, too…. Hmmm, WHY can I never get anything done???)
When I’m done with pictures, there are a few other projects to keep me busy:
Cleaning out and organizing the side attic for the sixth time in four years–
And cleaning out closets and taking a stack to Goodwill, a seemingly semi-monthly bi-monthly occurrence at our house.
Okay, guys…that’s all you’re getting from me this week…I’ve got work to do!
(Be sure to visit Blue Momma for even more works-in-progress!)
First? Awesome.
Well – hey, I’ve decided that storage areas are in NO WAY able to stay organized. It is physically impossible. It is some unwritten law.
photographs end up in drawers and cupboards and purses. We used to be so good about putting them in albums. (“we” is how I impress people when actually the hubby did it. I’m not sure why he stopped)
Anyway, I do organize my photographs on my computer now.
The attic? another world.
I don’t even put my feet in the attic anymore (access is too difficult) so I don’t even know how it looks up there. And sorting out pictures …. (big sigh) is always postponed to the next year !
Go digital, just pretend you had a big fire which destroyed all those prints then back up your computerized photos in case you do.
Okay….I was doing good up until I saw the fiberglass insulation in the attic….Now I’m itching. That stuff is wicked. :::itching::: And the diet pepsi is warm now…go get another one, a cold one, from the fridge.
ah, old photos. ah, attic (or, in my case, basement) closets. i don’t even think of those as projects anymore. they’re just part of the landscape.
You have inspired me to organize my pictures. Ooops! No pink bowls. I better go shopping first.
I want an attic!
Karmyn, you’re always #1 to me ;). And you’re a scrapper, so I KNOW your pics are at least in order….
Pamela, I DIDN’T take a picture of my computer screen, but I’m in the process of organizing our photos there (here?), too. There have been very few pictures printed since 2005 :/….
Shoot, I didn’t mean to click “post” yet!
Gattina, every time we get the attic in order, someone (often me) goes in to “get something”; when it’s returned, we (I) just kinda throw it in…WHY, OH, WHY???
Peter, we ARE digital these days, and yes, I’m in the process of backing them up on an external hard drive, but also uploading them somewhere “safe”. It’s a different photographic world now, isn’t it?
HA, that’s why when I go “in”, I make sure I’m covered (or pay for it later :/).
Laurie, I’m trying REAL hard to resist that urge….
Min, those are actually popcorn bowls my daughter is going to personalize and give to her friends for Christmas, full of something fun…. She found another use for them, first, lol. (And they were 90% OFF at Target! Wahooo!)
Sandy, well, hon, just go to the attic store! 😉
Yup. Yup. and… Yup. I can relate to ALL of your unfinished projects. I suppose that if I ever finish all mine I’ll have nothing left to live for!
That attic scares me! Our stays so hot most of the year that anything up there would ruin so it is empty. I cringe when I think of all of that unused space that I could be piling stuff in.
Is is sad that I’m jealous of your attic mess? I think I may need therapy….
I feel your pain.
I don’t even have an attic…Last year, I started that Photo Project and spent 4 days from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (non-stop) working on organizing them. Will post a pic someday for you to see.
Love the pink bowls.
Now, to the project at my place. What do you want from Swampy’s garage? No doubt about it, you’ll win that contest, you anal-retentive, obsessive-compulsive funny gal that you are.
If you had spent as much time on those photos as you did at my place, your project would have been close to finished. 🙂
Oh, you are brave. My project piles are awful. Truly. And no, I’m not brave.
I love your photo sorting, mine our just in a giant envelope.
We don’t have an attic which I guess is a good thing, it would come in handy though for hiding all the rubbish! Good luck with the sorting
Great job with the photos. The bowl idea is genius, I tell ya!!!
Wow, that looks like my photo mess up in Danny’s office, minus the pink bowls and Diet Pepsi.
I guess I am one of the few that has always kept my photos organized in chronological order in photo albums. I’ll come help ya!
I need to go through closets too! If I had an attic it would look like yours!
I have a photograph problem much like yours. But my mom’s is worse so I don’t feel so bad.
Sometimes I really wish I had an attic (or at least more than 2 closets in my whole house) but then I realize I would just have to organize it over and over again.
Ah, the cleaning of the attic. I don’t even dare think about it until I have to go get the Christmas tree and decorations. The pictures I need to sort. I may do that when the daughters are home for Christmas?
Sayre, if everything got done, what would we have to talk about? 😉
Blue Momma, hmmmm, I’m pleading the “Fifth” on your question…you ARE this week’s host, after all ;). And for the record, posting this publicly is motivating to get at least some of it FINISHED!
Beckie, thank you…that’s all I need :).
Swampy, I WIN??? WHAT ARE MY CHOICES??? I’ll be over “tomorrow” to pick!!
Carol, but She IS brave!
Alix, thanks for the luck, it just might help :/.
Robinella, I’ll tell my daughter you said :).
Jenni, see? we’re all messies!
Kaytabug, I’ll use all the help you’re willing to share!
SS, bigger is not always better…neither is more ;).
Wow, your attic looks like mine!
(You can clean mine, too, if you want.)
The rest of your stuff is way too organized, even in its unfinished state!
(Thanks for your comment on mine.)
I bet it feels great to have your photos organized. That’s a huge job.
The idea of the pretty boxes is really smart. That could even motivate me!
God bless all those wonderful human beings with unfinished projects – they are the essence of creativity.
Rather an unfinished project or nine, than to spend a life watching TV.
I’m on your side!
I’ve never even been in our attic. I hope Pup’s filling it with Rubbermaid’s of baby clothing. I’d be frightened to see it.
Your organization system looks great. When you get done, wanna come do mine?
Ah, so THAT’s why my older photos are ornanized, I need to find me some pink bowls! Or perhaps I need to convince my highly organized daughter to do it for me…
That is what I am lacking. Pink bowls. I knew there was a reason I could not get motivated to get more organized. 😀
I am the WORST with old photos…and now that I’m going to have an attic, I vow that I will NEVER put anything in there! (yeah, right!) I have volumes to give away – and I wonder how much money I have wasted on “stuff.” I need guilt, right before the holidays, to keep my spending in check!
Sorting photos is hard work. Sorting negatives to scan is even worse.
Lisa, no thank you, and I think thank you ;).
RC, we’re at about 79%…it’ll feel better when that’s 100…
David, I’m g l a d someone’s on my side!
AFF, trust me, you don’t want my “help” :/ ;).
Susan, train her well ;).
Debs, well they did make me smile…:)
Tiggerlane…I sooo hear ya…we don’t NEED another thing!
WT, don’t get me started on the negatives…but I’ve always wondered what you meant when you say you scanned them….
Ha! I have a ton of pictures as well. The bowls are a nice touch!
Reminder to self. Organize the photos.
Sigh – yet another thing to add to the list.
Just kidding. great post and mine is finally up.
Robin of mytwoblessings
Girl! I don’t even want to talk about decluttering.
Be sure to visit tomorrow’s post to choose your prize.
Ai…I have a large box of photos down at my moms. one day…really, I’ll get to them!! LOL…I’m so glad I don’t have an attic…
Love the pretty bowls and boxes!
I’m obsessed with keeping my photo albums up to date. Seeing those piles of photos makes me hyperventilate! 😉
Side attics! You lucky duck! You can store a lot of stuff in them!
Pink bowls! That’s why I can’t keep going with the sorting of my scrapbook pictures. I don’t have the pink bowls. That is now my new excuse for not getting to those tubs of pictures.
I love those pink bowls. Now come on over and organize my pictures for me please.
My system was much worse, some in albums, some in boxes all stashed here and there and no where near each other. 🙂 Good luck. 🙂
Robin, You make me smile, and you are making progress. I am amazed by people that have their pictures organized. Heck, my digital pictures aren’t even organized, and my computer helps me with that task.
i still have the first 4 years of my oldest on undeveloped film…then my hubby forced me to buy a digital camera…it is my best friend…but i don’t envy you your projects!
Those are a lot of projects I haven’t even started but fully intend too…the pictures, the attic (my basement for me). I was quite excited by your pick a petal stamp though. Mine arrives this week, and then I assume all thoughts of actual house organization will be out the window as I have 8 new stamp sets arriving.
