File this under one of the coolest things that has happened to me since I started blogging publicly two years ago:
An artist stumbled across a vintage photograph of me at age four, then wrote to request permission to paint–and sell–her rendition of the picture. I was a bit skeptical at first, but after spending some time at Kay Crain’s site, I was not just sold–I was honored! When she sweetened the deal by offering to paint an 8×8 mini painting for me, there was NO WAY I could say no!
It’s obvious Kay delights in her craft; her portraits communicate striking personality and her landscapes draw you in. This R.N. by day is gifted in capturing the mood of the photos she copies, and more often than not, whimsy and nostalgia leap of the canvas. I would LOVE to meet Kay face to face–her enthusiasm and joie de vivre in her emails tells me we’d get along swimmingly :).
Tonight, beginning at 8:00 p.m. CST, you may begin your bidding on "Beach Buddies" (Ebay link won’t work until then).
Click the painting at left to view the post with the original picture. Also, if YOU have vintage photos from the 50s, 60s or 70s, please drop Kay a line and let her know–she might just end up painting and selling you, too!
That is such a great picture, lucky you! I’ll have to visit her site.
That is brilliant. Beach scenes are very popular so I think it will be snapped up. Who could resist such cute little children.
What an adorable photo (your original) and I love the way she interpreted it in her art. I’ll have to keep an eye on that ebay auction – it will be interesting to see how much it goes for! Not too often you get to see such cute bathing beauties! 🙂
WOWZER!! How cool is this?!! Oh my Word! What a nice thing for this artist to do. The original picture is as cute as can be. It makes me want to call up my mom and ask her to send me all of the pictures of us when we were growing up so that I can browse through them again for the “umteenth” time. Her take on the original is so unique and engaging. I love it! What a blessing Robin! You’ve been running into lots of blessings and opportunities lately, from the talk we just had yesterday morning. Good for you ladybug!!
tooooooo sweet! i love the painting!
Marmite, I had a hard time choosing a favorite on Kay’s site.
Chris, I almost linked to you and Pamela–I imagine both of you have some wonderful photos you could share with Kay.
Karen, thanks, sweetie. No bidders last time I looked…and I’d buy it myself if there weren’t a thousand other things I NEED :/.
Peculiar, I’ll have to share @ the phone call I got today :/…. But overall, yes, ma’am, you’re right! I am having fun these days (and get your pics! You’ll have a blast from the past!)
Janet, thanks cutie 🙂 (me, too!)
ooh, you go girl!! that’s awesome!
Lovely painting!
I love photo realism painting. That’s the technique I used in my first painting over 10 years ago.
I really need to get back to painting….
sigh…
Congratulations – you’re famous (although maybe only your family will recognize you). That’s so cool!
Looking forward to this weekend…
That is an honor. Pretty cool!
Wow, that is awesome!
