Two for the price of one–Carmi’s "Light-themed" Thematic Photographic and Anna’s Project Black.
All of these images were taken from my son’s birthday party at a local skating rink–and I never before noticed they shared the common themes of "light and black" until I was thinking what I could offer for these two fun photo projects.
If you have the least inkling towards improving your photograhy, be sure to check out both Carmi’s and Anna’s blogs; one is an amateur, the other a professional, and I’ve learned much from observing their work.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the series–suggestions for improving shots like these (I can take constructive criticism 😉 ), your favorite image, any memories they might stir.
I like these, Robin! Particularly the light “shadows” reflected in the black. And I just love seeing the word “Redemption” in neon. Makes me think of arriving at the gates of heaven and finding a party in progress. 🙂
I love this series. I remember the last one back from when you originally posted it. My only suggestion is for the first one. Try cropping in to remove the background (wall, power cords, chain, etc). Even if you don’t get the entire wording in, the colors and lines make this one. Great series Robin. Looking forward to seeing your “mug”. 🙂
I really like this series, especially the ones you’ve closely cropped. I think cutting out the paler walls behind made for a good strong statement.
These photos are only fabulous! Wow! I like!
Nothing tops neon on black…beyond capturing great, saturated colors, you’ve captured the spirit of this place, too. Which is really the whole point of the photographer’s art. I love these. Got any leftover frames for them?
I love them all – they are beautifully framed and really capture the light and dark. I enjoyed scrolling down to your other project black shots too. Loved the rocking chairs.
Redemption! That’s my favorite, because it offers the viewer something. Sort of. Maybe. But I also like the festive PARTIES. Oh, I like them all!

Those are so much fun! Especially that they fit both themes. I’d maybe have tried to crop out the background of the first one, so just the neon words on black background would show. But otherwise, I think they’re great.
Of course I like the redemption sign, because it has multiple meanings – ticket redemption and redeemed by Jesus.
Cool entries!! 😀
I like all of these because they so remind me of the times I went skating with friends and siblings to our neighborhood skating rink. They used lots of neon lights then too, and we thought the little hangout was so cool. I didn’t skate super well, but well enough to keep from constantly hitting the floor and to have fun with whomever I was there with. It brings back memories of eating nachos and cheese dip there and trying on skates until I found my size and the perfect, snug fit.
Hey, good black here. Similar to my recent post (but I didn’t think to include it in Project Black).
The last two are my favorites — I like them because they are crisp, and yet soft, if that makes sense.
Just catching up on visiting my favorite sights…..
I like each and everyone of these! The purples are the awe-some-est.
