Sweet mem’ry of youth
Saturday morning cartoons
Scooby–WHERE ARE YOU???
Your turn: What was your favorite cartoon growin’ up? Are you old enough to remember when they were a Saturday morning treat? Did you sit in front of the TV eating a big ol’ bowl of cereal? What was your favorite sugary pseudo-cereal? Do tell!
Lucky Charms all the way! We watched the USA Network cartoon, like the Great Space Coaster, and the hero ones. Wonder Twins, and all that goodness!
I miss Scooby Doo,
And the once-a-week treat of
Cartoons, Lucky Charms
Meh… not my best haiku, but yes, I loved Scooby Doo, and I remember that cartoons were only on once a week!
Oooh, I remember!
My mom never bought sugary cereals, but every other weekend I went on a Trix binge at my dad’s.
My favorite Saturday cartoons? LOONEY TUNES.
I miss the unedited, non-politically-correct versions of Bugs Bunny and Looney Toons in general. Also, I loved Scooby Doo cartoons BEFORE they put in Scrappy Doo — I tell you true: Scrappy Doo is the Anti-Christ.
Does anyone besides me remember a cereal called Quake? It was one of two “competing” cereals from Quaker – the other being Quisp. My sister loved Quisp, I loved Quake. I believe there was voting of some sort to see which would continue and which would disappear. Quake lost 🙁
Sarah,
EVERYone in my family is a Lucky Charms lover…except for ME! And my blog tagline is "Magically delicious" so go figure :). And, wow, I can tell our age difference because I don't think I ever watched those cartoons. Geez…this was supposed to make me feel young! xo
Heather,
It kinda made 'em more special, an event, huh?
Steph,
GOOD for your mom for not letting those devils in the house! I wish I were that "good"! LOONEY TOONS! YES!!! Love those!!! 🙂 All of 'em!
Uh oh, Notorious…I was a Quisp fan :). And yeah………..before the age of political correctness? Amazing what they got away with! (Not a fan of Scrappy, either). Fun times…:)
I remember when Saturday morning cartoons were a big deal! I also remember anticipating the Friday prime-time preview show that introduced the Saturday morning line-up.
I remember liking Quisp. According to the Quaker website, it’s coming back and available at Super Target stores. I also like (er, liked) Cap’n Crunch.
It was TOTALLY an event, Robin! And we had Saturday morning chores that were done in record time so we could watch!
Defintely Scooby Doo, but went through a smurf phase too. The cereal had to be Fruit Loops.
I don’t remember watching Saturday morning cartoons. Then again, our family went for a time period (6 years or so) without owning a TV.
Our Saturday morning breakfast was always pancakes. My mom would get up early and cook pancakes every single week. It was something we always looked forward to!
I loved Saturday morning cartoons….. Scooby Doo, definitely, and The Jetsons.
My favorite cereal was Super Sugar Crisp. I also liked Sugar Pops.
I’m actually amazed at the lack of Saturday morning cartoons on the networks in our area….We have to resort to Cartoon Network or Disney.
Fat Albert! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We had to sing the song and dance when it started…LOL.
Captain Crunch and pebbles.
Mush Mouth – yay! Ibee seebee ubee atbee aw heck, I’ll see you at the inCourage…ha ha.
Thanks for bringing up some great memories…Wow! 😀
inCourage website and community that is!
I can’t say as far as morning cartoons, but my brother and I used to like to watch Lost in Space on Saturday mornings.
Oh, I was such a die-hard fan of “Land of the Lost”! That and a bowl of Fruit Loops made for a great Saturday morning!
So funny how you can kinda tell how old people are by their answers, eh? 🙂
I am not a fan of milk, so what I did was eat Fruity Pebbles and pour the tiniest amount of milk just to get them moist. Then partake. All while watching Smurfs. 🙂
I can help with the age issue, Robin. You and I are in the same ballpark, my friend.
Scooby Do, no Scrappy
Bugs Bunny – Road Runner Show
Pink Panther & Aardvark
Flintstones
Augie Doggy & Doggy Daddy
Rocky & Bullwinkle
Underdog
Of course, these weren’t all in one morning, they rotated. I’m sure there are others, but those are the ones that came to mind.
Ok, this is totally obscure, but I loved watching Jem and the Holograms. And I loved eating this random cereal called King Vitamin. I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, so maybe I just dreamed it. But it was delicious. It had a medieval theme, and each box came with free stickers!
I, like teahouseblossom, LOVED some Jem and the Holograms. It was my very favoritest.
My mom wouldn’t buy sugary cereal. So, I typically ate Kix or Grape Nuts. (clearly I was a deprived child)
