In the shadow of Lucerne's Chateau Gütsch, I was spellbound by the lady in the emerald hat.
It wasn't one thing about her, it was everything that begged question.
Cocksure posture. Fiery statement handbag. Head-turning cutout wedge platforms.
And that cigar…cigarello? The way her hand articulated her thoughts. The long ash impassively disregarded. Sophistication or security blanket? Addiction or pacifier?
The wrinkled trench, her hurried cinch, and a peek of emerald hem she never intended to show.
Wouldn't she just die if she knew?
And her hapless companion–a lover? Another habit? Her husband?
Contemplating a walk through Mühlenplatz (Mills Square), the old site of Lucerne markets, she would never have known I was looking at her and not Spreuerbrücke, the ancient Mill Bridge just beyond her.
A spy.
Voyeur.
Wanting to know her story, making up one instead.
I never saw her face.
What a pity.
Fun – I love a good spy picture. And the story you made up was probably much better than her real one.
Glad to know I’m not the only one to engage in stealth photography. I agree, she made a compelling subject!
Oh Robin! I LOVE this! What fun to read:)
Hi, I thought your pic and story were great, but I thought the length of his coat sleves were the give away —– they were miles too long — so what had he got consealed up the. I am quite sure he only had a stump arm on the left side! I also think that there is bound to be more than her head in that hat—- you should get a detective to look into this couple as I am sure they are up to no good —- even if its just —–a naughty weekend as you suggest!!
I would have liked to have look at her red hair. I also noticed that her bag seemed to match his shoes! Are you back in Germany?
It’s Mary Poppins and Bert. That was my first thought upon seeing the picture.
I want one. desperately. I adore hats and used to wear them to church regularly, but have fallen off the hat wagon – this is quite the encouragement to climb back on…
Blessings!
Seriously, Robin, you need to write a book with her as the main character. I’m intrigued!! (Also love that I am not the only person who makes up stories about people in her head.)
