Go Set a Watchman scripture reference

It’s perfect, really, how this went down. Poetic even.

A recluse since the success and acclaim of her first published and Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Harper Lee – or more accurately, Harper Lee’s people – dropped a literary bomb: she wrote another book. It’s set for release in July despite being written 55 years ago, before To Kill a Mockingbird, with the setting of the book taking place 20 years later.

I suppose if you’re much of a reader or writer, I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know. The internets were ablaze with the news, with Harper Lee and Go Set a Watchman trending with the announcement.

I’m among the legions who profess TKAM as their favorite book of all time–I wish I could come up with something different (just to be different), but I’d be lying. Atticus Finch is one of the most beloved fictional characters of all time, and who doesn’t love Boo Radley turning out to be a hero? Plus, chifforobe–what a word! I mean, I’m Southern from before birth, but I’ve never been able to use the term without feeling like a fraud.

Because I hadn’t seen anything about the origin of the title Go Set a Watchman, I checked my sources (aka Google) and was surprised at what I found…a passage in Isaiah about the fall of Babylon.

Which sets the stage for an interesting read….
