When I began writing about breaking the seal on my preserved wedding dress gown yesterday, I hadn’t taken it out of the exterior box in forever (there’s a smaller sealed box within the larger outer box); there was just no reason to (other than to look at it longingly with fond memories of "the day") knowing that it wasn’t coming out to play until our 20th anniversary.
Well, imagine my horror and dismay when I saw how stained that outer carton was! I quickly snapped a few photos (geez, always with the blog in mind first and foremost :/), then hastily tugged on the inner carton to assess the damage, if any, to it.
This is the image imprinted on the box…doesn’t is SCREAM 1950-something in a wonderfully kitschy kind of way?:
And THIS is what I found when I pulled the rascally rabbit out of the hat:
Although there’s been some shifting and settling and general box discoloration due to age, the interior box looks pretty good.
Whew! Talk about a HUGE sigh of relief!
I cannot WAIT to open this…and put on my tiara veil…and slip on my dress and pray it buttons in back! And pretend to be the Princess Bride…again :).
"Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam…And wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva…"
Man, I love that movie–PLEASE TELL ME YOU KNOW THE ORIGIN OF THAT MOVIE QUOTE!–as campy as it is…it’s timeless. I hope they never remake it. 🙂
I hear shifting and settling come naturally with age.
^^^Hahaha!Mark!
Obviously our dear Robin doesn’t have that problem, she’s one hot tomale. 😉
Beautiful gown! i wish i could say the same for mine. Mine is soooo 80’s LOL!
Totally The Princess Bride. That was easy. Nex question please!
(do we get to see pictures of you IN the dress?)
That was supposed to be NEXT.
my god it looks like it’s been embalmed and is available for a Viewing.
glad there was no damage. i would give a lot of money for one of those seals. (or perhaps i will just steal the one off your blog)
my wedding dress is on a hangar in the back of my closet. i assume that’s the wrong way to do it. but i do everything wrong, and it’s not really a wedding dress anyway. i just used it for one.
Can’t wait to see you in the dress!
I had trouble putting my dress on after only 2 yrs of marriage. Of course, it *just* fit when we got married. At our Dallas reception two weeks later, it was a tiny bit tight. 2 yrs later, I broke into a sweat zippering the thing.
“So, tweasuwr your wuv . . .”
“Have you the wing?” (If you ever have several hours to kill, give me a call and we’ll have a PB quote-a-thon.)
Speaking of movies, that label looks like a movie poster for “Attack of the Clone Brides.” Creepy in a kitschy, 50s sort of way. 😉 But your dress is beautiful and very princess-ish. I’m sure you’ll look like a dream in it.
Mine was supposedly heirloomed, but it was just in a cardboard box. No plastic bag. Nothing. I sent it to my daughter last spring to see if she wanted to use parts of it in making her dress. (Two of her friends designed and sewed her dress. It was gorgeous!) The style of mine pretty much screamed 70s, but I sent it anyway, with permission to cut it up or whatever. She put it on just for fun, but the fabric was discolored, so she didn’t use it. Now it’s hanging in her closet.
I’m not very sentimental about my dress (did you notice?), probably because I just had my older sister’s gown altered to fit me. Grace did use my floor-length veil, though, so that was fun. Both my sisters used it, and my niece plans to also in May. So, there’s our smidgen of sentimentality.
I’m totally popping Princess Bride into the DVD player tonight. Seeing as I’m all by myself…..yep….that and a bag of peanut M&M’s.
Glad the dress wasn’t damaged!!
Hellloooo!! Princess Bride!! Princess Buttercup!! No, no no!! Tell me she’s not marrying Humperdink!
Humperdink!Humperdink!Humperdink!
ok, that’s enough from me…
I LOVE Princess Bride! My 7th grade son’s english teacher assigned them a project based on that movie. How cool is that?
I’m so glad your dress is okay.
My first wedding dress (1965) got ruined in the cleaners but I still kept, but only on a hanger covered by a sheet. It’s still hanging there in the wardrobe very discoloured. Yours looks pretty good.
Dang – if I had been first I would have answered first – PRINCESS BRIDE!!!! Love it love it love it.
I’m glad to see the inner box is okay! WHEW!
Yes the Princess Bride is such a classic!!!!!
Everyone who has seen that movie has memorized all the dialog. It is THAT good!
Mark, so what are you saying?
Mary, nice save Miss Priss ;).
Nikki, yes…eventually ;).
My friend Glenda was telling me a few weeks ago about a wedding she attended a few years back. The pastor had been the youth pastor of the young couple. When He got to a certain point in the wedding, he surprised the bride by pulling out a hat like the priest in Princess Bride. Then he proceeded with “Maywwwich.” I guess it was hysterics in the wedding party and in the church.
I’m not sure if I would have forgiven him.
Congrats on the dress, but mostly the marriage. Oh, and the good taste in movies
Why is it only certain women know and love that movie?!
(Ella Enchanted is kind of funny in the same way, but still doen’t compare, and they better NEVER remake it or I’ll sick some Rodents of Unusual Size on them!)
“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die”.
I LOVE that movie! My kids love that movie! I can’t wait for the 20th anniversary 2 disc edition Nov.13!!
Your dress looks beautiful!
Oh I can’t imagine them remaking it… that would be like trying to remake A Monty Python movie…
I had to laugh out loud because I too always keep the blog forefront in my brain! 🙂
Pamela, Tina, Lisa, Kaytabug, Misty, I’M ON THE RUN TODAY, but thanks for chiming it. More soon, k? 🙂
One of our favourites – my then 6 year old had the Inigo Montoya speech as a party trick!
Of course, I am from Australia, which plays a crucial role in the movie!!!
Can I still be your friend even though we have such a bad rep?
BTW – love the unveiling!
Hi, you have a nice site. Really good job! Respect 🙂
