It’s the little things in life that give me reason to smile. When I’m washing my trillionth dish, whimsical rubber gloves almost makes me forget I’m workin’.
Almost ;).
Do you have a tip for making household chores fun? One
lucky commenter will
receive a pair of "Fun in the Kitchen" gloves!
Oh cute gloves!! The only thing I do to make chores fun is to turn on some good music while I work.
They’re adorable, and officially on my Christmas list, lol. Blessings, Whitney
I apply lotion to my hands, slip on my gloves, crank up the hot water and wash myself a pile of dishes to gain a spa manicure without ever leaving home! For entertainment, I usually end up singing 🙂
Love the gloves….those are so cute!
The best way I know to have fun in the kitchen is to crank up the music – something you can sing along with. It makes the chores fly by!
Jammin’ tunes. Totally. That’s my daughter’s job when it’s cleaning time – to get us rockin’!
Ok let’s be honest. If I had these gloves I would still hate to clean. HOWEVER….I would look really cute doing it!
If my wife wore the leopard gloves, I may have to “distract” her from her chores! prrrrrrrr….
How do I make cleaning fun? I have the boys do it. 🙂
Definitely a good iTunes playlist for kitchen work should include: “bootylicious” by Destiny’s Child, “Ain’t No Other Man,” by Cristina aguilera, and whatever fun pop song of the moment gets me groovin’.
hah! The only way to make chores fun is to watch someone else do them! Although I will say those gloves are way too cute!!!
Those rock. I love gloves. You know the last thing my grandma ever said to me when she was dying of cancer in the hospital? “Wear gloves when you wash dishes, Heather”. She was holding my hands. Isn’t that just surreal? Of all the things she could have said. Ha! She was the most godly and selfless woman I know and she was worried about my 20-something hands getting ruined by dishwater while she was on her death bed. I figured she would tell me some deep spiritual truth… but I learned later that hearing it from someone else isn’t always what makes those kinds of things stick. It is learning it through trails and experiences that does. She was smarter than I thought. I look back on her example now – and ever time I wear gloves in the kitchen, I think of her life and how much she meant to me.
Getting a maid?
Just kidding. Sort of. I wouldn’t be if I could afford one.
In the meantime, to mop floors–don old socks, get your feet wet and soapy (make sure you’re using cleaner safe for your skin), and do a Broadway dance using the kitchen floor as a stage.
music … that’s the only way to make it fun … well, except to let the kids help and then as long as I don’t scream at them, and remember to just smile .. then it can be loads of fun.
I’d love to know a fun way to clean the kitchen…I just spent an hour deep cleaning and didn’t have ANY fun doing it. Maybe if I had been wearing these gloves, it would have been more fun. 🙂
The fun part is having the clean house at the end — although great music and having the kids do it are worthy ideas. I can’t claim credit for those though (at least not in the blog comments). =)
I like to listen to audiobooks on my MP3 player when I clean. It doesn’t make cleaning “fun” but it does provide enough distraction that I don’t hate it so much *L*
You are going to think I’m weird…..
I pretend that I’m on a secret mission and there is some code in the toilet that I’ve got to find while I clean….
Or, I’ve been kidnapped and forced to wash the floors.
so, yeah – I make up stories in my head while I clean.
Fun in the kitchen? Have the kids clean up!
Fun in the kitchen? Singing! And it would help to wear cute gloves …
My daughter absolutely loves gloves like these! She wears them to wash the dog, do her homework, occasionally put away dishes and other important “kitchen stuff” and more important not “kitchen stuff”. I would love to have a pair to wear with her!
Crank up the music! That’s about the only thing I do to make cleaning fun. I crank it up and act goofy with the kids (hoping they’ll help a little). 🙂
Listen to music and see how fast you can get it done. Beat the clock. =)
Oh, I love those…and need those. 🙂 I do a bunch of catering and my hands get so dry!
How to make cleaning fun…well when I sat down tonight, my first thought was I Hate Cleaning. I’ve been cleaning for hours tonight. We host a small group in our house for dinner and Bible study every Thursday. So every Wednesday is clean-up, clean-up everybody do their share…except no one (but me) does their share. 🙂 Obviously I failed to establish familial cleaning procedure along the way somewhere.
Anywhoo…to make it fun I imagine how clean the house will look in the morning when I get up for my coffee. I love walking through the house in the early morning light and knowing all that is behind me. Also, I think about how fun and lively my house will be when full of people. There is just something so satisfying about taking something dirty and making is sparkle.
And music…love the music.
Ok I have the perfect thing to make housework fun. You fill out about 100 slips of paper with jobs to perform. You add them to a bag now heres the thing sit relax watch tv then when commercial comes on grab a strip and do what it says and try to get as many as you can until your show comes back on. I promise in a short 12 hours your house is clean.
My tip on making household chores fun (besides turning on some good music) is to make it fun for the kids. I give them old socks to slip over each hand (socks where the elastic is gone, but there are no holes) and let them dust anything they can reach. Crawl around and get all the chair & table legs! It’s easy to get into the little crevices when you’re using a sock over your hands.
80’s music…and that only works occasionally as I truly despise cleaning. I make the kids do it all (which is why it is a substandard brand of clean~but what do *I* care? *I* didn’t have to do it!).
I do love the gloves though…and all things girly. It would be great to win because it would really be a hoot to see my 13 yo son wearing these while he washed after dinner pots and pans. LOL
PLUS~ We’d have a reason to meet at Starbucks again and I would remember my camera this time! =)
My girls and I use music, either we play fun catch tunes or we make up our own song
I recently moved into a house that has no dish washer (eeeeek I know right?!). I have 5 kids and a fiancé who has friends over just about every other day, so I do a lot of hand dish washing multiple times a day. Making dish washing fun is almost a nessecity for me. I saw these gloves at Walmart and I always thought about buying some but never did. Finally when I decided I definetely wanted to buy some and I specifically went to Walmart just to buy these gloves……they didn’t have them anymore. So sad!
Rubber gloves are very common household items. I’m glad you find joy in using them. It makes you forget that you’re washing the dishes because you don’t feel the water directly. It’s kind of a good escape, right? 🙂 You could try embellishing your pair of hand gloves, so you’ll feel glamorous while doing all the chores.
