This is the week PENSIEVE "gives back", which is kind of like "Idol Gives Back" without the millions.
It’s time for the quarterly Bloggy Giveaways, and if you’ve never participated, you’re missing the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in giveaways. From my site alone, prizes are valued at over $200!
I’m not exaggerating. Most of the time you don’t have to be a blogger to win, and I promise, these are legitimate giveaways and "someone" will win–it might as well be YOU!
Monday ~ 2 giveaways sponsored by Paula Deen (included below with this post):
- $100 gift card to use in Paula’s online store
- Signed copy of "My First Cookbook", $21.99
- Scroll down for details!
Tuesday ~ Sponsored by Stampin’ Up Demonstrator, Paige Batten – POSTED!
Wednesday ~ A gift to others, Compassion International ~ POSTED
Thursday ~ From my library, choose from dozens of titles ~ POSTED!
- a wide range of authors from John Grisham to John Piper, Jodi Picoult to Jan Karon
Friday ~ a random assortment of a few of my favorite things ~ POSTED!
- approximately $25. I’m not tellin’ but if you read me, these will be a few treats I’ve mentioned during the life of my blog. (o k a y…one hint…me likey Bath & Body)
PLEASE READ GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS to qualify for my giveaways! I’d hate for your comment to be selected, only to be disqualified because you didn’t follow a few simple instructions!
- You may enter all my giveaways as often as you’d like; separate comments count as separate entries. 🙂
- Some winners will be selected randomly, others will be chosen by comment creativity and adhering to giveaway guidelines :). Unless there are TONS of creative comments, and then I’ll enlist the Random Integer Generator to choose from a narrowed field of entrants.
- As a courtesy (to me and any blogger hosting a giveaway), please actually read the post!
- Make sure to leave a working email.
- Unless noted, only U.S. and Canadian bloggers are eligible. I’m sincerely sorry for this, but International shipping rates are outrageous (she says from experience!).
- While I enjoy reading your comments for giveaways, due to sheer volume, I’m only able to reply to comments this week on non-giveaway posts.
- You must be willing to provide your snail mail address.
- Commenting ends Friday, October 31st at 11:59 p.m.; winners announced by Monday at 4:00 p.m. EST.
Thank you so much for visiting PENSIEVE,
and if you’re a new visitor,
I hope you’ll make it a regular stop :).
To my loyal readers? This week’s for YOU, too!
Be sure to enter daily!

Up for grabs a $100 giftcard or an autographed cookbook–read more!
I’m a fan of Paula Deen and her darling sons Jamie and Bobby; if you’ve read me for any length of time, you know I speak the truth. During last quarter’s Bloggy Giveaway, I had readers swarm Jamie’s blog to tell him he needed to fly me down to Savannah so I could live-blog dinner at The Lady & Sons restaurant.
Okay, not that second part, but I did send thousands hundreds a bunch of readers his way. Because my now-good-friend, Phil-the-webmaster moderates Jamie’s comments, I figured I’d give BOTH of them a break this time, and ask something different of you.
Paula’s site has a new recipe section you have GOT TO CHECK OUT (by clicking this link)! It’s extremely easy to navigate, and in addition to her wonderful repertoire of recipes, she has:
- very helpful kitchen tips
- a conversion table that is reallyreallyREALLY useful
- and a basics section that covers… w e l l …the b.a.s.i.c.s.
My favorite new features of her recipe section are being able to register, rate recipes, and maintain an on-line recipe box of your favorites! No googling, no scrounging around trying to remember where you put that hard copy–it’s all right "here", keystrokes away!
Would you like to win an autographed copy of Paula’s newest cookbook, "My First Cookbook"? Or better yet, a $100 gift card to use in her online store?
- If you aren’t a PENSIEVE subscriber, would you take a minute to request FREE email notification (left sidebar) or subscribe in your preferred reader;
- Visit the new recipe section and snoop around a bit;
- Return to this page and let me know a) a favorite recipe you discovered, b) that you registered so you can begin compiling your OWN box of favorites, or c) all of the above.
ThAnKs for entering today’s giveaway and be sure to check back daily for the rest of the stash; remember, there’s no limit to the number of times you can comment for eligibility, but they do have to be "real" comments :).
Oh, my goodness! Did you see the Dreamy Creamy Hot Chocolate recipe? I can see myself totally getting addicted to that! Sweetened condensed milk? Mmmm… I can eat that stuff with a spoon!
I need to go to bed tonight, so I won’t take the time to register now. But you Twittered, so I had to peek!
I’ll have to go back later and poke around some more. My 15yo is turning out to be quite the gourmet, and she would be thrilled for me to win this giveaway. In any case, I will definitely bookmark Paula Deen’s site for her.
I am a cookbook adduct, but I do not have any of hers yet.
Okay, you got me to finally take the time and peruse some of Paula’s recipes. I registered and have about 10 recipes that will be going into my ‘box’ AND since I’m studying about nutrition and always looking for new recipes, this was great timing for me. Thanks!
a) I always ready your posts, but don’t always comment – sorry.
b)I am adding to my recipe box the Black Bean Salsa. Sound so simple and yummy and actually pretty healthy to top it off.
I just love Paula Deen…I would love to cook with her for one day and soak up all her knowledge. I love her banana bread!! What a fun kids book….please put me in your drawing!
-Sandy toes

Yippee!! A Paula giveaway!! Well, I think I could happily cook for my family off of this website for the rest of my life! Thanks for directing me that way, Robin.
As a flatlander who never gets to eat good Southern cooking unless I make it myself, I’d have to say the Fried Okra looks mighty fine indeed. I LOVE fried okra! I may just have to try it.
You’re so generous! I am so spreading the word 🙂
I love Paula Deen. She reminds me of my MIL. However, one time I was mean to her in my blog b/c I was craving chocolate, had none, and was on my period. For REALZ!
I collect cookbooks and my collection (and my cooking repertoire) has a giant hole where “southern cooking” needs to be! Count me in please.
The other Robin (who does have a US mailing address)
I am a subscriber to Jamie’s Blog, thanks to you :-), but I didn’t know about this section. Thank you for the “heads up”.
Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake
Chocolate and Butter. HELLO! Need I say more? 😉
cheese biscuits! Need I say more?
What a wonderful giveaway. YOu know, out of all the cookbooks I have, I do not own ONE paula deen cookbook, it has got to be a national tragedy. Last year, right after christmas, I bought a new cookbook and subsequently BURNED DOWN MY KITCHEN AND HALF MY HOUSE testing it out….not kidding. So we lost most of our stuff then. I have not opened a cook book since. Maybe this would get me back on my feet with cooking? As long as its not with OIL! Lol

Ok – so I’ve never made caramel apples before – they scare me. I don’t think it should be hard — but for some reason I’m scared to try it. My sister makes some really good ones, so I usually just bribe her into making them for me…but I found this recipe http://recipes.pauladeen.com/index.php/recipes/view/caramel_apples/ on the site and just might give it a shot…
Thanks for the giveaway!
I have just recently started to really enjoy cooking. The revaluation came when I had my daughter (I guess it was from all the “nesting” I done when I was pregnant). So I could definitely benefit from this. The Peanut Butter Cheese Fudge sounds yummy! I subscribed.

Zesty Cheese Straws!!!
I was so inspired, I thought I would make these for my kids for a snack. WOW they have a zip to them! You really have to keep an eye on them because they do not taste so wonderful when you burn them…twice… It’s a quick and easy appetizer to pull off (when you are not distracted by kids going in every direction). I would recommend it! On that note, I am a super fan of Paula! Im so glad to find another fanatic. I have been dreaming of doing her Savannah tour, but living in California has made that one a bit difficult! She has a deviled ham ball thing that I made for a party once that I could have just sat and ate with a fork.. I’ll stop by again later and share that recipe..if you’d like.
I subscribed.. Your blog is great!
You are so lucky. My mother has repeatedly asked me to find a way for her to meet Paula. Last year for Thanksgiving she did an entirely Paula Thanksgiving. Whenever I tell her about a new recipe, she asks, “Is that one of Paula’s recipes?” Because if it is not…it’s probably not worth trying.
So now I get to tell her that I registered for Paula’s site, and that I found a yummy banana nut cake recipe with cream cheese frosting that I’ve been trying to find for several years now.
Thanks Robin!
i looked and looked for a section called “butter” but alas, didn’t find one lol

Paula Deen’s food is the only food I’ve felt that was worthy of inheriting the coveted title of “As good as Grandma’s”.
Her macaroni and cheese recipe is perfection and pretty easy to follow–I’ve even been able to make it and I have managed to set my kitchen on fire twice due to my lack of cooking ability over the years.
The Grandgirl’s Fresh Apple Cake from Georgia sounds really good!!!

I LOOOOOVE Paula! My cook book collection is definitely lacking in the Paula Deen department. I don’t have anything of hers! Thanks for the opportunity!
-Angela
I would love to win this for my daughter. She has been watching Paula Deen since she was two years old (she’s six now). She calls her “Grandma Cookie”. I don’t think she actually knows her by her real name. Once day she was rattlin’ on about Grandma Cookie and was at a loss as to which of her Grandma’s she was talking about. One of her older brothers told me it was their Grandma that cooked on TV. Again, at a loss as to who they were talking about. That afternoon I’m watching Paula Deen, and she walks in and shouts out gleefully “Grandma Cookie!!”. Paula has been Grandma Cookie around here ever since.
I have not had a chance to eat at the Lady and Sons restaurant yet, but it is on my bucket list. I would like to try her fried chicken.
The Twice Baked Potato Casserole sounds so yummy!
txhottie_86 at yahoo dot com
This would definitely be an incredible prize to win! I know a few people I could definitely give this to as a gift for the holidays coming up. Thanks so much!

I forgot to add in that Grace’s favorite recipe is the Peach Blueberry Cobbler.
OOOH the Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake! Paula Deen is a godess of southern cooking that’s for sure! I had the opportunity to see her here live but I was 39 weeks preggo and didn’t want to pop during her cooking! That would have been a story for sure though!

YUM. I love Paula Deen. She is awesome. Her cheesy biscuits sound so good. I would love to add another cookbook to my collection.
I already get the emails. I snooped around the recipes and
I would like to try the Banana Nut cake with cream cheese frosting
I have been VERY dutiful and followed all instructions! Signed up for your feed in bloglines (check!) and registered with Paula Deen (check!). But I didn’t get a chance to poke around her website much because I was worried that I wouldn’t get my comment posted in time!!! But I have made some of her beef stew before, and it was really good. I *heart* Paula Deen with her sparkly blue eyes and bubbly laugh and her great, yummy butter-rich food!
P.S. Can I be persuasive and say that I’m on Central Time so technically it’s 11:48pm by my clock and still October 27th? ‘Cuz I really do love me some Paula! And so does my husband–he calls her “his woman.”
P.P.S. But I’m not jealous at all. It’s a platonic thing. *smile*
The Chocolate Creme Brulee sounds delicious
The Pink Potato Salad recipe sounds yummy and cute
I’m actually already registered there… and my favorite Paula recipe is her shepherd’s pie. I use it all the time!!

When I was pregnant I got this urge to bake. I tried to make pumpkin biscuits and they turned out to be hideous little door stops. I suck at baking (except carrot cake), but I’m stubborn. Paula’s Zucchini Bread and Sweet Potato Biscuits sound AWESOME! 😉
I subscribed! Oh my gosh, I visit Paula’s recipe site constantly. I WANT…scratch that, I NEEEEED this book. And, I need her to come teach me to talk like she does. She gives me cavities just listening to her, she’s so sweet.
Thank you for the giveaway. My comment is number 31, in case you need to know which one to pick. Yes, I counted all your comments. My eyes hurt.

omg the watermelon cooler! that would’ve been so perfect for a summer drink.
I learned about Paula Dean from my husbands aunt. She has had a few strokes but is doing ok. Her favorite thing to do is call me up and have me look up recipes for her and guess where she always sends me…Not Rachael’s site anymore..Her favorite, Paula Dean:)
I don’t know what it is but I can’t read her recipes in my normal Californian accent..I must read it with a Southern twang!! I have to try her recipe for Sweet Potato biscuits they look easy and delicious…My husband is from the South so he’s used to wonderful down home cooking, with Paula’s help I can bring my husband home again
Thanks for the link to Paula’s site. I went over there and discovered that she’s using ExpressionEngine as her CMS.
One of the recipes I saw when roaming around was a hot cranberry cider. With winter coming, I need a few of those kinds of recipes. I also subscribed to your RSS feed.

Baked French Toast sounds heavenly!
So I went to snoop and started with main dishes then to desserts, how do you pick 1 favorite? I am a mom of five girls who all live to cook, I would say that their father is spoiled but we all love to do it. I am always hearing can I make daddy a treat? This would sure give us some great ideas.
I saw French Coconut Pie and it reminded me of the fabulous Coconut pie my mom makes- I will have to learn how to make it!
Her banana bread is TO DIE FOR! Thanks for the chance!
I also have a giveaway on my blog so come check it out!

I browsed through the recipe section and thought the “Blackened Tilapia Sandwich with Cilantro Lime Mayonnaise” sounded yummy. I saved it to My Recipes. The first recipe I’m saving is the “Uncle Bubba’s Hot Wings” because I looooove hot wings but I just can’t make ’em very well. And it cracks me up that it’s “Uncle Bubba’s” because every Southern family has a Bubba. In fact, we’ve got 3 of them in mine, one of which is my son! LOL

I love paula deen. I would love to have her cookbook. She is so fun to watch.
I have always loved Paula Deen. My two little ones have known her on sight since they were about 2 (“Mama, that’s PAULA on TV!”). Thanks SO much for letting me know about the new recipe site; I didn’t know about it.
My all time favorite Paula recipe is the Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake. True story: Last year, I made those for the preschool’s Thanksgiving feast. I had artfully arranged them on a platter and I ran upstairs to brush my teeth before heading off to school. When I came downstairs, I saw that my 2 year old had pushed a chair over to the kitchen counter, climbed up onto the chair, and dug her fingers into about 5 of the servings of Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cakes. She saw me looking at the platter and exclaimed, “I no do that!” Paula’s recipe was SO good, it made my 2 year old into a liar and a thief! Crazy!
Only problem with the recipe is that people always want to know how to make it and it can be a bit embarrassing telling them what’s in what they’ve just eaten (“Um…yeah…it has a package of cream cheese, a stick of butter, 3 eggs and an entire box of powdered sugar…here’s the phone number of my personal trainer.”).
I love Paula! Great name! ( wink) c)I visited the site, thanks, I love the stuffed french toast! yum! I am going to sign up too!

I really need all the help I can get in cooking and I like Paula Deen
I love Paula Deen. In fact I love her so much that I had a huge crush on her boys, partly because I wanted to be in her family. It was hard to decide if I liked the dashing good looks or the southern accents better, but either way…*sigh*. Of course I have mended my foolish heart ways and got married to a Northerner so all my Southern dreams will be fond memories. My favorite recipe on there is the Red Velvet cake. I rarely eat it, but it is one of my indulgences.
My favorite new recipe is for Elvis Gooey Butter Cakes, which just sound so decadent and yummy and perfect for a cold day when you just want to sit around and eat and watch old movies. I registered on Paula’s site, and I signed up for your emails too. Thanks!
This wasn’t easy! I must have looked at a dozen recipes, and I could have chosen any of them. I’m going with the Sesame Chicken Strips. Yum!!
And, I’ve been subscribed to you for a while, now..
Thanks!

I have been watching Paula Dean for years on the Food Network channel. Aren’t her sons just handsome as all get out! She is so fun to watch and easy to follow her recipes. She puts to joy and love back into cooking delicious dishes and enjoys every minute of it and it shows. I would love to win this , thank-you.
Would love more cookbooks! Always need new recipes!

Oh, I love Paula (how can you not love anyone who loves butter THAT much?). I have found a number of recipes I intend to try…hashbrown quiche, baked acorn squash (we have a ton right now)….oh man.
I adore the cheese biscuit recipe- my family is southern and i remember my great aunt making biscuits in her kitchen- no measuring cups or anything- everything was done by the “handful” and they were wonderful!
I have subscribed. I’m also taking a good look at Paula’s site. Yum! I was interested in the kid’s recipes and found Breakfast in a Cup. This looks delicious. My kids aren’t huge grits fans (I love ’em) but this might change that!
