In an era of reality TV gone wild, there’s one show that stands head and shoulders above the rest–
Dancing with the Stars. I love it.
Their judges, Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, deliver constructive, entertaining, and sometimes contentious criticism, but it’s clear they know what they’re talking about and their interest is in serving the dancers.
Every season, there is One Dance that explodes my heart in a million pieces, and this year I thought it was Kellie Pickler’s and Derek Hough’s Argentine Tango (start at the 1:25 mark).
I was wrong (though it’s a close second).
It’s their Super-size Freestyle from Monday night; super-size only in its beauty and simplicity. I knew she won the moment I saw it–pure, emotive dance that steals breath. Stunning. Show stopping. Brilliant choreography.
You must watch even if you don’t care for DWTS. Their bodies are art in motion, and you’ll be moved by their poignant, exquisite storytelling through dance.
Derek has always been my favorite choreographer, and if I’m not mistaken, this will be his last year with the show. What a way to end his time with DWTS–earning this year’s ridiculous but coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, his fourth win. Kellie might not have won when she competed in American Idol years ago, but her country music career is doing just fine thankyewverymuch, and I’m inclined to think this crown means even more.

oh Robin you are watching the WRONG SHOW!! Start watching So You Think You Can Dance. It started last week but they are still in the audition phase. If that dance moved you, your head will explode when you see what these dancers do. The best reality competition on TV. Hands down.
Totally agree with everything you said! I think Derek is a brilliant choreographer and Kellie was an amazing dancer. Some people think she’s a dumb blonde~~not so. The show in the fall will be very different without Derek there.
OK, so reality shows? Not a fan – here I am trying to live a life, and there are all these people being broadcast on TV, exposing their “lives” for the world to see (I’m sure they’re quite edited for sensationalism). I just have a problem with that – I’m not a fan of living vicariously – that’s why I don’t like to watch sports. I’d rather DO something, than watch someone else do it.
BUT, I have enjoyed “What not to Wear” (if that counts as a reality show) – I’ve learned a lot on how (how NOT) to dress from that show.
I haven’t watched much, if any, of DWTS. I am a huge fan of good dancing. My hubby and I are watching So You Think You Can Dance. That show is awesome. These are amateurs, some with a lots of experience, that are vying for their careers.
It is totally awesome! Love watching Latin, disco, hip-hop, ballroom. Makes me want to be there with them doing those moves!

I totally agree that this was one of the best dances that I’ve seen. It was very touching – I could have cried right along with Carrie. I also LOVE Derek’s choreography. I’ll be curious to see where he goes from this show. His sister has made her mark in several different arenas. Wishing him good luck.
